In many cases the skillful player will find a situation where the pot odds are in his favor. In other cases, he will simply bet a higher amount of money and win the pot. Finally, in some situations you can try to steal the pot back from the other player by making a large bet and scare him out of the hand.

This is a situation that both of our professionals – Dr. Maxim and QQ – got themselves in the hole with the best hand against AK. So what should you do when you have suited hole cards in your hand?

If you have lower cards, you should lean toward playing Pokerace99. Frequently you will see three of the same suit in a hand and you can play these hands soft or semi-soft.

For example, if you have a hand like 8s 9s, both of which are hearts, and someone has already bet, you should probably call down to the river to see the flop, especially if your cards drawn are smaller. The person with the better hand could be playing for quite a lot of chips with a mediocre hand.

Another similar situation would be having a hand like Ah 8s. There is a lot of flush draws, straight draws, and especially full houses. Many times you will see people bet the river with these hands hoping for the best. Say that you have Ah 8s and on the flop it is a Q 8 , you are the first to act so you bet two-thirds of the pot, or $30. The next player in the hand has As, and bets the remaining $8, so now you are getting 3 to 1 odds on your money. Still you have not really made a hand yet, there are two cards to come.

Usually you will not see a big raise before the flop and a friend to play the hand with you. So sometimes when you call the bet there is already a lot in the pot. A better play is to check and possibly take the pot down there and then if you flop a draw. Often a bet on the flop will scare most players away from the hand, but this is not always the case.

One time when you will see a lot of action is when the suited cards hit. Many players get too excited when they see their pocket cards and put too much money into the pot out of fear. Other players work themselves all in with suited cards hoping to win the pot. Sometimes the flop will hit and you will have a huge hand. Other times you might not make any money with the flop. either you get cleaned or you don’t make anything at all.

Then the reaction goes something like this:

A flush + bet = almost guaranteed to make money or almost guaranteed to lose money.

After the flop the approximate probability of completing the flush and making the money is about 39 %.

The first approximate probability after the flop is about 21 %, so a bet to induce a bluff or to gain information cost about s2% of your stack.

With the help of this reaction the experienced players make the following calculation:

P = (39% x $10) + (21% x $10) – (39% x $30) – (21% x $60) = $120 – $100 = $10 = $10

When the hand is played with 36% of the pre-flop money in the pot the chances of making the money are almost 11 %.

If the money is played in the middle of the pot with only 5 % of the money in the pot the chances of making the money are almost 9 % of the money in the pot.

If the money is played in the early position, like in the button the chances of making the money are about 18 % of the pre-flop money in the pot.

In the flush + straight situations the pot is almost certainly going to be quite small.

Even if the flop is quite favorable and the odds of making the straight are better the implied odds of winning the hand are always small because of the pot odds.

Therefore we can always safely assume that we have the best hand pre-flop and also have nearly the best hand post-flop.

This also means that both our opponents have almost no chance of having a better hand than us.
